Umesh Waghmare is a professor at the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research. His group is involved in theoretical and computational research on condensed matter and materials science. The research themes carried in his group are: (a) understand aspects of chemical bonding and microscopic couplings that are essential to the specific properties of a material, (b) obtain information about the atomistic structure and electronic states that may be hard to access experimentally, and (c) design new materials or modify existing materials to yield desired properties, or narrow down the choices of new materials for design by experiment. Professor Waghmare's group also focuses on determination of material-specific properties on the macroscopic and intermediate length and time scales starting from a first principles description of chemistry and atomistic structure. == Career == * 1996 - Ph.
